Where Will the 2026 World Cup Take Place?
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This will be the first time the tournament is hosted by three countries. Matches will be played in 16 cities across these nations, including major venues such as MetLife Stadium (New York/New Jersey), SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles), and Estadio Azteca (Mexico City), which has already hosted World Cup finals in 1970 and 1986.

As officially announced by FIFA on January 10, 2017, the 2026 World Cup will feature 48 national teams instead of 32. This expansion is expected to increase global interest and participation in the tournament.

2026 World Cup Qualification System
The qualification process for the 2026 World Cup is ongoing. As hosts, the USA, Canada, and Mexico have automatically qualified. The remaining 45 spots will be filled through regional qualifiers. This new system allows more nations from each continent to participate than ever before.

Each World Cup since 1966 has had its own official mascot and match ball. The first mascot, “World Cup Willie,” appeared in England 1966. Since then, FIFA has introduced a unique mascot for each tournament. Similarly, a custom-designed match ball is created for every World Cup, becoming part of the tournament’s identity.
